Kwanzaa Gift Ideas

Kwanzaa (Dec. 26 to Jan. 1) is a spiritual and joyous occasion celebrated in the African-American community. Kwanzaa was created in 1966 and introduced to reinforce seven basic values of African culture. These values are the called the Nguzo Saba, which in Swahili means the Seven Principles. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the principles. When it comes to gifting, families celebrate different ways: some choose to exchange gifts throughout the celebration and relate gifts to each daily principle, while others reserve the last day for gift giving to the children in the family. Gifts are mainly focused on items relating to the African culture, handmade gifts, educational gifts or gifts appropriate for Kwanzaa Karamu, the large feast held on the sixth day of the holiday. Below are a few gift ideas for celebrating Kwanzaa.
